| Taipei, Jan. 4, 2010 (CENS)--AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), a major thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel manufacturer in Taiwan, will advance the equipment installation and mass-production dates at its new 8.5th-generation (8.5G) plant to the second half of 2010 to meet high-season demand. AUO`s chairman K.Y. Lee made the statement when receiving a delegation of ranking Chinese officials, adding that AUO has completed preparatory work and is ready to set up a panel plant in China when the Taiwan government lifts the ban LED Lamp. Lee said that currently the demand exceeds supply and in the first quarter panel prices "have more room to rise." The chairman said that AUO would first consider setting up a plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, or Xiamen, Fujian Province in China for the established industry cluster there. AUO, in fact, has set up LCD module (LCM) plants in Suzhou, Xiamen, and Mianyang (Sichuan Province) led light bulb. Thanks to strong demand from Europe and the U.S. as well as China, according to Lee, AUO`s production lines are seriously strained and the firm`s inventory has declined to a record low level. AUO`s first 8.5G facility in Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP), for example, is running at almost full-capacity (40,000 substrates per month) now led light fixtures. AUO`s second 8.5G plant in the CTSP Houli Base is designed to have an initial monthly capacity of 50,000 substrates, whose construction is expected to be completed in early 2010 and equipment installation in the middle of the year. To accelerate deploying new capacity, AUO has decided to simultaneously kick off production and install equipment at the second 8.5G facility. |
